The symbol
of the state flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan goes back to the national and
cultural traditions of the states which existed in the territory of present
Uzbekistan. The state flag was approved by the 7-th Special session of the
Supreme Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
1. The blue color of
the flag symbolizes ever-lasting sky and water as the main life sources. The
color means kindness, chastity, honesty, glory and faitfulness in the heraldry.
It was just the blue color that great Amir Temur chose for his state
flag.
2. The white color
of the flag is the traditional symbol of peace. It is the harmony with daylight
and heavenly bodies. This color symbolizes purity and aspiration of high morals
and deeds.
3. Green is a color
of the revival of nature. It is a symbol of youth, hope and merriment of many
peoples.
4.The red lines of the flag symbolize
life.
5. The symbol of a Half Moon is associated with the
historical traditions of the people and can be considered the symbol of newly
gained independence.
6. There are 12 stars on the state flag of the Republic
of Uzbekistan. The stars associated with the traditions of the Uzbek people are
connected with the signs of the Zodiac, which were the base for the old solar
calendar. The 12 stars depicted on the state flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan
symbolize the century-old culture of the Uzbek people, which is striving for
harmony and happiness.
The state emblem of the Republic of Uzbekistan is created
according to the century-old national and state knowledge of life of the Uzbek
people. And it was approved by the 10-th Session of the Supreme
Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan on July 2,
1992.
The state emblem of the Republic expresses the sun
rising over the flourishing valley surrounded by garland, which consists of
wheatears on the right and twigs of cotton plants with opened cotton bolls on
the left.
The
eight-pointed star, symbolizing the consolidation and unity of the Republic, is
situated on the top of the emblem. The Half Moon and stars situated inside the
eight pointed star are Islam's sacred symbols. The legendary «Humo bird» (that
means the «Bird of happiness») with extended wings pictured in the center of the
emblem is the symbol of national rebirth. The whole composition expresses the
hope of the Uzbek people to have peace, happiness and prosperity. There is an
inscription of «Uzbekistan» in the Uzbek language which symbolizes the flag of
Uzbekistan on the three colored ribbon of the garland
underneath.
A few words about
the history. The word «gerb» originates from the German word «erbo», which means
«decoration» or «medal» of states, lands and other kinds of properties,
inherited by kings and rulers.
The Turkic word
«tamgha» had the same meaning in the vast territory of the ancient Turkic
khaganate, which stretched from Altay to Iran. And each ruler of the Turkic
state had its special khaganate tamgha. Thus, it turned out that, for a long
time the meaning of the term «tamgha» has coincided fully with the German word
«erbo» from which the term «gerb» (emblem) was originated. |
